Mississippi Library Association tie-in?

I've just noticed that the MLA meeting this year is in Natchez on October 22-24. Should we attempt to have our meeting around this time since I imagine many of you will be traveling down there already?

If the meeting is held at the south end of the state, it would make more sense to have it around the same time as MLA, since it is a five hour drive for those of us at the far north.

It is unlikely that many would want to make the trip that far more than once.

Ok, that said, how about a meeting on October 21, 2008?

You would probably be able to catch the majority of people going to MLA on that date.

The only catch is that despite the conference being advertised for Oct 22-24 (Wed-Fri), every year they plan pre-conference activities on Tuesday (pre-registered workshops, committee meetings, fundraisers, etc.).

These pre-conference activities are not as heavily attended as the official opening day but some do come up for it.

The question would be whether to have it on Tuesday and hope the people that decide to come a day early to attend both conferences outweigh the people we might lose to the pre-conference.

I see your point, Amy. Does anyone know who is in charge of programming for MLA and the preconference?

Laura,

The Vice-Chair of MLA is in charge of programming and local arrangements. Either her or the President would know what might be happening that day.
